    Morning Campers,
Well, no gardening jobs planned for today, as I have a number of indoor chores I'd like to clear. Mr F is off work tomorrow & we're planning to visit a local NT site to get a few steps in & enjoy the greenery & fresh air.
My aim is to get the ironing done early this morning, as it is truly a job I dislike so as usual, I will be having a thorough sort through the pile & ironing only what needs it.
We'going out tonight so it seems like a good time to sort my yucky roots out. I used to have my colour done in a salon back in the Spendy Years. Could I afford it? Well, probably yes, had I not been spraying money around right, left & centre on everything else, but as I WAS that terrible frittered, no, of course I couldn't afford salon colouring & it munched into my overdraft like everything else.
I've now been colouring my hair myself at home for years & have no problems with it. I have a bit of a tight-wad method of doing it. First, I'll visit multiple shops to see which one has the best offer, particularly multi-buys. I like to buy 3 at a time if possible. Then the first time, I use a whole box & wash out & save the applicator bottle. The next time, I mix up a half quantity in the saved bottle & just to my roots & along the hairline. Next time will be full box, then the 4th time, I'll use the saved half & just do the roots again. I wasn't sure if this would work initially, but it seems to & those half boxes mean I'm spending less on hair colour than previously.
I do think having freshly done roots/colour provides a bit of a boost. If my hair is looking faded when I look in the mirror, that's kind of how I start to feel, so it will be a nice pick-up this morning.
Oh, & I need to mix up a sourdough loaf too. Maybe I'll just do that first. OK, coffee finished, must crack on.
Keep it in your purses today where possible,
    F x

  • I use the root touch up kits in between salon visits. As they come through every three weeks, there is no way I can afford a salon visit so often. I even begrudge the six weekly visit to the salon but keep it up as she gets all the bits I miss and having a fringe, it needs cutting regularly.

Its a chore I detest with a passion!! If I had the guts, I would let it go grey but I know it wouldnt suit me so we keep on keeping on.

Enjoy your night out. I am also out with work colleagues for a curry.

The boss (unusually) has booked it and think he may be paying too, so happy days. :D I love a good curry!!

  • Totally agree RE hair colour, hope you're feeling a bit more yourself now it's refreshed!

Your gardening skills are such a wonder, love checking back and seeing what you've grown and planted. Will your lettuce/spinach/rocket grow over the winter? Are they in your greenhouse?

Hope you're having a good week!

  • Had a lovely night out with the staff and boss. Such tasty Indian food!! Mmmmmmmmmm:D

Now just chilling out watching a bit of my favourite band Turin Brakes (that no-one seems to have head of) and reading up about kale which I have never grown.

Im sure FG can give me lots of good info about the stuff. Seems I cant start with it till next year from what I have read.

Sancti - Yes, they will grow over winter, but slowly, as it gets colder & darker. That's the idea of sowing them now. It's warm enough for germination & for them to get going while temperatures & light levels are better. Yes, they are in my greenhouse. It's unheated, but provides sufficient shelter to grow a few winter salady bits & to keep frost-tender plants alive.
I can remember crunching down a snowy garden one Boxing Day & being able to do a small pick of various leaves to accompany cold turkey & jacket wedges. It felt like such an achievement!

Kantankrus - Glad you enjoyed your curry night. We had a good time meeting up with family & making good use of a restaurant discount offer.
Re hair colour. Yes, I have considered letting it grow out to grey, but I think even then, I'd still dye it purple or something. I'll see how I feel when I'm older. I always pictured myself as an old, old woman having long white hair full of purple bits & put in plaits or intricate but sloppy up-do's. Who knows what I'll feel like when I get there, though!
Re Kale. Never grown it. Well, not quite true. When I lived at my old house, I did successfully grow some cavalo neto seed into fab sturdy little plants. Sadly though, I managed to shut a greedy gutlord of a snail into my mini-greenhouse with them & every single one was scoffed overnight. We both fancy having a go at kale though, as our understanding is that it stands well in cold weather & would give us some pickings when other crops have stopped for the season. Hmmmm. Maybe next year.
I don't know the band you mention. My favourite bands do change a little, but am consistently a big fan of the Oysterband - Their song 'Here comes the flood' sums up so.much of what is wrong with world.... especially the rampant consumerism.
Well, I must get off my backside & get on with a few garden jobs now.

  • We grow Kale - can't remember the variety we had last year - it does last well in winter. We have curly Kale this year so I shall see how it lasts in the cold weather.

Foxgloves, I love the idea of you with white hair with purple bits.

Elnora - I like the look of that 'Redbor' kale, as it looks attractive too. Must have a go next year.
As I like cats, am not averse to a bit of foraging & often have my big preserving cauldron on the go, future long white & purple hair might be a witchy stage too far, but who cares? Certainly not me, lol x

  • Just watched on Youtube. :D My teeth are also "unamerican" and I do wonder when this craze for holey jeans will fade.

    Apt tune for these days!!

Kantankrus - Yes, apt indeed. By the way, that band you mentioned which I'd never heard of? Mentioned to Mr F (big muso) & he had not only heard of them, apparently we have one of their CDs. Shows how much notice I take of his purchases. As long as they're financed via his monthly 'personal spends' (which they always are), I don't take a huge amount of notice of what he's buying!
