  • Not such a success at the car boot this morning. It cant have been well advertised as only two lines of sellers. Managed to offload quite a few more books and clothes. Surprisingly, only the Lego went out of my more pricey stuff and I got £12 for it. Considering we were given it years and years ago, I shouldnt grumble.
I made £25 and spent nothing so although not great, better than a poke in the eye. ;)
Have come home.......sorted through again and discarded 3 black bags full to go to the next tip run.

I'm debating whether to do one final one next Saturday. Mainly as I cant bear the thought of just dumping it or the hassle of taking to charity shop. Will see later in the week.

Now can I be bothered to sort kids old school stuff out? Hmmm

I think with the school memorabilia, it's just a case of editing it down to a small collection of memories per person, Kantankrus. I did keep my swcondary reports, but when I read through them all 2 or 3 years ago, I didn't find it particularly nostalgic. I saw very easily from various teachers' comments, that I never really performed to my true potential. Sure I stayed on for A-levels & I have a BA & a Masters, but it was very clear from those reports that I was a cleverer girl than I was prepared to show people & that I wasted a lot of time fannying around trying to make people laugh. I think study wise, I did 'enough' but definitely could have achieved more. So as they didn't bring back the fun, nostalgic memories I hoped, I binned them all!

Aww, shame it wasn't such a good car boot. It does depend very much on how well they've been advertised. £25 definitely better than nothing, though. Maybe lots of folk were away or busy with it being BH. I know what you mean about not wanting to throw stuff away though.

I think it is definitely 'mindfulness', Dottles1. It works for me, anyway & doesn't involve spending out on workbooks, etc. Yes, even the simplest, least consumerist of concepts can be milked for profit, can't they?

    Greetings Campers,
Oh my days, it's hot. Sticky, unbearable hot.... the sort of hot where you contemplate asking your partner to step outside & give you a good hose down. Our garden is fairly private on each side, but less so to the back where complainers live.
I've just lined up eight jars of hot purple loveliness on the kitchen dresser. We were out picking blackberries in the village water meadows by 9.00 this morning & so I've been jamming. Ooooh, the smell of blackberries, apples, sugar & lemon bubbling together.... it takes me right back to my childhood. Mum utterly loathed cooking & would have fed us permanently on Findus crispy pancakes & beans if she could have got away with it, but she was a good jam maker & blackberrying was an annual ritual for us.
So a peaceful & productive day - my favourite kind. I did get a bit leery towards Mr F though regarding his DMs. The grass in the local water meadows is long & dew-laden in the mornings. We'd picked about 6 berries before it became very obvious he was having some sort of problem with his feet. I enquired & he said his feet were soaking because his old DMs leak. I asked why he had kept a leaky pair. He said 'It's my only pair'. I asked why he hadn't bought a new pair.
    "Because they're expensive".
"That's not a reason. You only wear DMs. It's not like you're buying shoes all the time & you know we've always got money in the Clothing Piggy for essentials like shoes"
"Well I haven't been anywhere that sells them".
"How long have they been leaking?"
    "Ages".
"Well why didn't you buy some when we last went into the city centre?"
    "Didn't think of it"
"Why haven't you ordered a new pair online, then?"
    "I haven't had time".
"Hmmm, except for every night when you've had the laptop on".
"That was for sorting out my music collection"
"Well perhaps if you gave as much priority to sourcing new footwear as you do to getting the latest King Crimson re-master or some bloody box set full of bloody tardises, you wouldn't be slopping around a field moaning with soaking wet feet, WOULD YOU?"
"Oh, it's like that is it".
..... as he squelches off to a promising-looking bramble hedge.
A result though..... he popped through a little while ago to say he's ordered a pair & they'll be delivered on Thursday!
As for my own much-loved little pair of DMs.... they will also soon need replacing but gosh, they've earned their keep. I bought them one month after Mr F & I started going out together. This October, we'll have been together for 20 years! I have no objections to expensive boots when they last that long, as I've worn them very regularly.

The mindfulness discussions are so true. I remember a few years ago looking after a grandchild who was approx 4 at the time. We decided we would walk to the shops to get an ice cream - approx 10 minute walk away. Well we walked and talked and stopped to look at ants, flowers, snails, slugs and squashed worms and arrived at the shops about 40 minutes later. Standing still with them watching ants busy with a leaf in my suburban street was magical and taught me that you don't need to rush everywhere. The ice cream wasn't the highlight of the walk, the time together looking at nature was the highlight.
My cats are quite good at mindfulness too - they live in the moment, on their terms. The younger one particularly does everything with 100% of himself - sleeping, eating, washing, purring - I do love how when he goes to sleep nothing disturbs him.
Animals and children can teach us grownups more than paid for mindfulness books, apps etc.

Yes, that walk was definitely all about what we'd now call 'mindfulness', Blackcats.
It's also put me in mind of that saying about not being able to change the past, but if we want to steer our future life, we need to concentrate on the present.
I think that's a misquote, but it's the gist of the thing, anyway and it applies to everything in life whether it's working on fulfilling plans for the future or simply wanting to wake up all next week in a clean, tidy decluttered home or pay down debt.
