If you were not so disciplined with your money, your strategy could well become a disadvantage to you in the long term.
I would hesitate to make an unwise financial decision just because I was crap with money!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
You will almost certainly find yourself moving through 2 or more properties on your trip up the ladder.
Certainly true of my parents, and OH's. My parents bought a flat when they married, and moved to a 3 bed 30s semi just before I was born. They moved to a 5 bed Victorian semi when I was 5 and my sister was 3, before their 2 youngest were born, and to a 6 bed Edwardian detached when I was a teenager....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Thanks for the family history! This was covered off in the original and following posts.0 -

Perhaps if you were crap with money you would NOT hesitate to make an unwise financial decision! LOL.0 -
For me, at least 'security' comes from knowing I can currently lose no more than my deposit, maximum, and knowing I have not taken on unsustainable mortgage debt to buy somewhere much nastier to live in than I currently rent.
Obviously, 'security' means something different to you from what it does to me.
Very sensible post - I agree with you completely....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I'm 30, and was therefore 11 in 1989. I don't remember the beginning of the crash, but I do remember house prices being low in the 90s, and people worrying about interest rates, capital loss, etc.
I also remember the Great Depression from history GCSE (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

today it was all but empty.
not sure if this is an indication of the d/turn, but it doesn't look good.
could just be that it was bloody cold, and people preferred to be in their living rooms with a nice hot cuppa (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
PS My full stop key is broken, in case anybody noticed my puncuation was a bit strange!
I hesitate to advise people to spend money on a depreciating asset, but a new keyboard isn't that pricey.......much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I don't think things are that bad!!
I hate to use the press but here are a couple of recent articles that, if you choose to allow, show some glimmer of hope.....

I personally think the credit crisis is over stated. This is due to the fact that no one really knows the extent of the 'bad debt'. In these situations it is best to play safe. Hence credit 'drying up' to a degree. I am still getting offers of loans through the door and I am sure daytime TV is still awash with 'sub-prime' loan offers. And my mortgage company keeps writing to me offering to lend me more money than I need. If in the current state of fear we are managing to get by without a 'housing market crash' or recession, I expect that once things calm and the extent of the 'crisis' can be established, the fear and panic will subdue. This is not to say that we will see the likes of 125% mortgages again, well let's hope not anyway!
As ever, its a matter of opinions .. but quotes from the CBI are hardly an impartial source ! :rotfl: The Fed has'nt even admitted there is a recession yet !!! ... while at the same time taking unpresedented measures to keep the American Economy afloat .. you believe what you want to believe I guess .. but only time will tell ..0 -

fair point!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
