If train is cancelled due to bad weather

Options
After paying a small fortune for some train tickets, I am now worried that this predicted bad weather could lead to widespread cancellations. I have read MSE info on this but it only seems to refer to delays and refunds. Two questions - if my train is cancelled due to bad weather do I get a refund and does it matter, as some train websites state, that the tickets are advance tickets?

(seems to me that most tickets bought in advance of a journey must be by definition, advanced!)

Many thanks

The situation is complicated because some train operating companies offer compensation if a train is cancelled/delayed whatever the reason, and some TOCs only offer compensation if the fault is deemed their fault.

In other words, some will pay out if the delay is due to bad weather whilst others will not.

Have a look at each TOC's website to find out which pay compensation for weather related delays.

You other question, I'll assume is a bit tongue in cheek.
Not all tickets bought in advance are Advance Singles.

It's a bit like saying Express Dairies delivering milk in a milk float cannot possible be an express delivery. ;)
  • If the train is cancelled you can travel on the next available service.

In major disruption, where there may not be a next available service within a reasonable time train companies will put arrangements on their websites. These may include validity on alternative companies or routes, or validity next day, or returning the ticket for a full refund.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Wait until it happens, then ask the question based on actual events as there are too many variables to consider.
