Maternity Leave & Part-Time Work

I've recently resigned from my job as my car was written off in an accident and unfortunately cannot travel the 1.5hr journey via public transport each way plus complete an 8 hour working day at 26 weeks pregnant (i've been struggling with low-blood pressure and low iron-count anemia = dizzy spells/fainting). I am eligible for SMP which should be starting in the next month or so, but until the baby comes I wanted to look into doing some part-time work close to home to boost my income. Is it possible to work part-time for a new company whilst receiving SMP from my old employer or would this jeopardize the SMP?

You can't work for another company while getting SMP

Thanks _shel, I’d read that pretty much everywhere but none of the situations were the same as mine, as I no longer work for the company, but I am still eligible for the SMP, so didn’t know whether that would make any difference.

Before the birth: you can work for a new employer and still receive SMP from your old employer before the birth.

Ok i thought it meant at all but obviously not if you find work before the birth. So the OP finds this work and starts before the birth it will be ok.
