Hello
Really not enjoying job that ive been in last 9 months so have found another job starting in May
I only have to give 1 weeks notice
Question
If I hand my notice in on Thursday 29th March will the Bank holiday be included in the weeks notice , so my last working day would be 5th April ?
thanks

I'd look into your company handbook as your new job in May is extremely close to 12 months of employment, and it could well trigger a longer notice period....
Aside from that, a 1 week notice period effectively means that they don't really care *too much* about replacing you. Your proposed date +7 days should make 5th April as your last day. Even if it technically doesn't, I doubt very much that they'd go anal over 1 or 2 days.0 -
I'm sure somebody will confirm this either way, but whenever I've handed in my notice (usually 3-6 months notice), I've counted BHs as a day, for the purposes of the notice.Veteran gamer and clean freak

You could always give notice a day early, on 28th March. In your letter of resignation you would say something like "I hereby give notice of my intention to leave your employment at the end of business on 6th April 2018".The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Yes, your last day would be the 5th. A bank holiday is counted the same as any other day unless your contract specifically states otherwise. You might want to check how much holiday you have accrued though.0

I know this is a moot point but how are you going to survive for a month without pay?0

While I wouldn't turn down 3 weeks salary, £900 is not exactly much money in the scheme of things.0

Correct.
But the advice to check whether you would need to give more by then is very good.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

This may be a surprise to you, but there are thousands upon thousands of us out here who can quite happily survive for several months without pay. The particular details of his financial arrangements are of no relevance.0 -
Many thanks for the replies
Have double checked contract and only 1 weeks notice up to 1 year , then 4 weeks
Don't owe any holiday have just taken what Im entitled to and knew I would be leaving
The place has a hideous high turnover so they don't appear to care much ....
if you've been there 18 months you seem to be classed as long serving ..
Have savings so a month without salary is not a problem , the extra down time before starting new job will be worth it

Statistically I have never done well at jobs I've left for with no break so I think you are doing the right thing OP.
Anyone could easily start a new job and find they are not being paid for so many week's longer anyway because of payroll issues or find their subject to "time in hand". So could just as much start straight away and still be in a rather awkward situation.0
