Scottish Widows Endowment and divorce.

Options
I have a endowment policy mature with Scottish Widows which I have been paying for the last 25 years. I rang and they want my ex-wife to agree to release the money however I got divorced over 20 years ago and have no idea where she is. I moved away from the area we lived in and have no connection to anybody who may know her. They are not answering my emails and when I ring they refuse to say anything else than they need her to speak to them. The last time I rang I was advised to get legal advice. Surely they must have come across this kind of thing before.

Any advice?

Onus is on you to track her down. There are agencies that can do this for you. If it's a joint policy she'll no doubt want her share of the proceeds.

Perhaps from the solicitor that missed this when you get divorced.

Ultimately, there is a court process but that takes time and the end result will depend on how the money is agreed to shared.

A tracing agency is the first place if you have exhausted all options.
