    posts don't just pop up.

Sound like you drove over it and that's why it popped up.

if you ripped it out of the ground it sounds like you did not stop at the first indication there was an issue.

To answer people's queries, the gate I refer to is the kind used to stop people from parking there when no one is using it. You pull it upright and lock it in place, and lay it down when you are parking. They have been in bad condition since my employer took over the lease for the building and parking spaces. The bolts used to secure them to the ground had rusted, snapped, and/or come out of the ground.

The spaces face onto a wall so you have no choice but to reverse out of them, and are immediately next to a road so you must drive in at an angle.

The parking spaces are leased with the building, and have since been removed to be replaced with new ones so I unfortunately cannot show you a picture of the state they were in.

Has your car had its suspension lowered, because a post would not just flip up of its own accord ("REVENGE OF THE ALIEN PARKING POSTS"), or did you possibly reverse over it when leaving the parking bay?
I still cannot get my mind around an inert object moving of its own accord.

Yep, I think you're right, she's hit it with a wheel flipping it up.
  • Is your car modified at all (eg. lowered)?

Is that why it damaged the exhaust of your particular car?

Unfortunately this post popped up, then the poster disappeared rather like her post.

Another in the long line of post-a-query-don't-like-the-answers newbies.
