Saw my dentist yesterday, the filling in my upper molar is failing , unable to xray it, will be aranging an xray in the next week. Following the xray the dentist wants to remove the tooth, options are then denture or implant. I do not have any significant pain and the tooth does not feel loose, the filling is slowly breaking down it is a big filling. I want to keep the tooth the dentist did not think a crown was an option. On that side of my mouth I have three teeth a gap a filled tooth and this failing tooth. Any advice would be apreciated.

Someone who hasn't seen your mouth can't give better advice than a dentist who can/has.

Why could he not take an X-ray?

The options sound reasonable if crowning is not an option. A third one is take it out and do nothing, a fourth is ignore the advice and then be struggling to find a dentist and get it treated when it is giving significant pain (Probably just before a holiday or important family event)
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Xray machine was not available. New dentist as old one has retired. I have been with the same practice over 30 years. I can't do nothing as i would not have a biting surface on that side of my mouth,. In a bit of a panic. I was wondering if there arn't ways to save the tooth outside of NHS dentistry.
