nhs ill health

I was finished from work due to ill health on 31/10/17 and have still not had a decision on if I am going to receive ill health pension. It is now nearly five months. Is this a normal amount of time or should I have heard something by now, I have rang but have been told my paperwork is with a medical decision maker which is an outside company. Then, if they decide yes, you have to apply for pension from nhs.
