what's eating my courgettes?

I bought a plant suitable for containers, so it doesn't trail all over the patio, and it was fine for most of the summer. Over the last month thoughh, something's been munching on the courgettes, taking the skin off just at one end, and leaving sort of scrape marks. My tonight's tea has just bitten the dust.
Anyone know what it might be, and how to make it leave my courgettes alone?
Thanks

If only one end is affected you can eat the rest.

It may well be slug damage, in which case use just a few slug pellets or your usual slug treatment.

If that doesn't work then perhaps a mouse is attacking it and you'll just need to hope that it doesn't eat much. If you start to use traps or poison there's a good chance that non-target wildlife will be harmed.

we have had mealy bugs(wood lice) eating ours. I know because they are still doing it when I pick them. For some reason they have been having a go at loads of veg this year.We had them on the beans too.
  • If its slugs, a smear of petroleum jelly round the containers should do the trick - It does for us - strawberries, courgettes, runners, etc..

it sounds like slugs to me. i am amazed you are still getting courgetts now, mine finished about 8 weeks ago.
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
