Hello to all my fellow DFWers!

I have to admit that I haven't been on this forum for some months now (July, I think), so some of you might not know who I am, and some of you might be scratching their heads and thinking "that name sounds familiar..." Anyway, I used to have weekend parties with some of you guys, and then it would appear that I dropped of the face of the earth. I just want to say hello and to apologise for not being around for a while.

To cut a long story as short as I can without resorting to txt spk, I'd been having problems with home broadband since May, and then from July-September, it was crashing every couple of days. Called the useless helpdesk every time it crashed, and they couldn't help and wouldn't let me out of my contract without it costing me over £100.

We had many telephone battles and I replaced all the equipment, and it still wouldn't work. I eventually managed to get out of the contract on account of "technical difficulties", but have been left without broadband at home for about 3 months. Haven't switched provider as I'm waiting to hear about another job, which would mean relocating. Until I know more about that, I'm not going to tie myself into another 12 or 18 month contract.

Effectively, this means I can only visit this forum from work, which I can't really do - especially as you guys tend to party after work hours! Much as I've missed you guys (and I have), I'm not coming to work over the weekends for you!!

I hope you're all well and still on track, and I hope to be able to catch up with you all again soon.

Tata for now

Just a random guess, but was your Broadband with DontTalk?
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

Hi Su, hope you're ok. There has been less nudity at the parties in your absence!

LOL!! Hello Lenny, my lovely! I've missed our parties, but have maintained weekend nakedness so I feel connected to you in some way :p

It's been pretty miserable, to be honest. I really looked forward to the DFW parties (makes it a whole lot easier to not spend any money over the weekend), but without broadband, I've had to find something else to do that's free and I can do on my own :D

I wasn't able to share major bits of news with you guys at the time, so here are the highlights:

    August
I got my exam results (Marketing course at night school) for the first half of the course - I got two Bs :j . Second half of the course due to start in Sept, but they pushed it back to Jan 08.

    September
I got myself down to just one debt (A&L loan). Have cleared £10k in 10 months. :T
£17k to go - aim to clear it in 18 months.
Also, I was approached by one of our offices about a short-term project role supporting our company's marketing of a major sports event. Just waiting to hear back from them as we've got resourcing issues at the moment.

    October
Big company announcement about said resourcing issues - will know in 2/3 weeks if I still have a job. But hey, redundancy ain't so bad - get paid to leave!!

It doesn't look like that much when it's all in writing, but it's been a pretty turbulent time.

As soon as I know about the job/where I'm going to be living, I'll be able to get back on line at home and we can party!! Till then, I'll try to pop in from work (although I might have to cut down on the nakedness!)

    Tata for now :kisses3:

    Aw shucks! Cheers Lenny :o

I'm pretty damned proud of myself, I have to admit. It was tough, but about 4k of it was down to Matched Betting and an AXA savings plan that I cashed in. I think the next 18 months are going to be really tough.

I've currently got a £17,000 loan at 6.7% over 2 1/2 years. That's £615 a month. I'm also saving £350 a month at 6.3%, and will add my annual bonus to it, and any extra bits of cash I can get my hands on. According to my in-my-head calculations, by the time I add my Mar 09 bonus, I'll have enough to cover the balance of the loan.

Sometimes 18 months feels like a long time (especially when I'm practically living off my expenses every month), but it's a drop in the ocean really. Can't wait for it to be over so I can start saving for a house all of my own, and I don't have to clean up after two untidy housework-shy flatmates!

Better get back to work now, eh? Don't want to lose my job and ruin my master plan!! :rotfl:
