When a Recycle symbol does not mean Recyclable!

I suspect many of you will be aware of this, but I caught a snippet of a TV programme the other day where they explained that one of the apparent recycle symbols (a circle composed of two arrows looping into one another - a bit like yin-yang) does not necessarily mean the product is recyclable!
Apparently companies can label their packaging with this symbol if the product is not recyclable or is not made out of recycled products, but they have donated money to the recycling of packaging somewhere. - How much and Where are not clear !

More confusing is "Bottle - plastic - widely recycled" and "Top - plastic - check local recycling" on the same product.0
