cheapest place to get a will written correctly

my wife and i need to get our wills written really, like most people we have probably waited too long, but every time we look into it, its the cost that stops us from getting on with it.

i am ware you can write them yourselves, but are these legal, who holds them, presents them etc.
i would rather use a professional service, does anybody have any advice for where is the most cost effective solution

Visit the Institute of Professional Willwriters at https://www.ipw.org.uk. Most members will offer a free home visit.

A will you write yourself is legal, as long as you are of sound mind and have 2 people witness your signature. Witnesses cannot inherit anything from the will. The only problem with D.I.Y wills is that if you are not clear about your intentions, an interested party can contest it in court.

I've written my own and my husband's will myself because our affairs are very simple.

We had our will done by a local solicitor, through the Cancer Research Charity. It didnt cost us a penny, all we had to do was agree to leave some money to the charity in our will, which as we support the charity anyway were more than happy to do. It was a good way to do it and the solicitor made us really think about our choices (even though it included thinking about things we would rather not face) and isnt something we would have done so well had we have done it ourselves.
