Moving a mortgage

Hi. We're 3 & 1/2 years through a fixed rate mortgage at 3.59%.
Considering on the market there are deals at 1.09% my feeling is we should move mortgages now and take a different offer.
We have approx 80k left on a 130k mortgage with a house valuation of approx 250k.
My current lender has said the early repayment charge is approx 1.5k.
What do you do if you want to change mortgage providers? Do you go through the new lender and they handle it like a g&e switch?
Thanks in advance
Tom
