Hi
first post on the forum but seems like the right place to get help,
my paypal was hacked a couple of years back with over £1000 spent on various items i did not order, paypal refunded the money and so did my bank which has now been classed as a double deposit so i ended up getting more money than i orignally had taken from me
over 2 years later i have now received a letter from wescot collection agency stating i need to pay the outstanding money to there company which is around £400 has anyone else had a similar experience as i have never been in debt or dealt with a debt company before
many thanks.

Hi,
This is a debt forum, everyone has had this experience before, trust me.
Either your bank or pay-pal, most likely your bank, have taken steps to recover the money you owe them from the double payment.
Unfortunately if someone pays you double, one of the parties is going to want the money back, you must of had correspondence about this previously ?
Who are wescot acting on behalf of, who is their client mentioned in the letter ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi thanks for the reply
i have had texts in the past from paypal asking me to call up but i thought this was due to me not logging back into my account,
and the letter states they are acting on behalf of paypal to recover the money i dont even live at the address anymore a family member called me up and after i told them to open the letter its become quite distressing as i dont know what to do (the letter is addressed to me)
Many thanks.0 -
Ah, so its Paypal chasing you, well it should not be distressing, its quite simple really, if you admit you owe the money, then set up a payment plan with wescot (you can do this from there website very easily).
On the other hand, if you dispute you owe the money, send them the provit letter available from the stickies on this forum.
This requires them to provide you with proof of liability.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
