  • Half term anyone?
Yeah, you're right, maybe I should wait till these kids go back to school and get real answers.
Degrees do help and so do other qualifications It is the ones you choose and why you chose them that help. My Masters (and to an extent my undergrad) both lead to a professional role that will pay double what I was earning in retail and has potential to earn high amounts.
Sure but... what job do you have now? What offers do you have lined up?

Perhaps better advice would be forthcoming if you were to give us some basic information - industry sector, current job role, years of experience, qualifications.

Yes, definitely - provided that he/ she isn't already too frustrated by the very wide intelligence gap between himself/ herself and all us 'kids'.

Concensus seems to be that your Manager is probably wrong :rotfl:

And just to satisfy the 'be nice to Newbies' - it works both ways - you've been given good advice and instead you're keeping your head firmly up your !!!! and throwing insults

Are there any opportunities for advancement within the company? If you are highly thought of they might be prepared to help you to advance within the organisation.
You say you have a chequered employment history so I'd certainly suggest sticking it out where you are for a while longer. If after a couple of years in total the situation hasn't improved start looking for something more challenging elsewhere.
I suspect that most people have experienced times where the job has either been lacking in challenge or simply not what they want to be doing. Still do it to the best of your ability and ignore the irritants around you.
  • Sadly, pride comes before a fall, it really does - perhaps you haven't given enough justice to the fact you are around the right people?

Trust me I never thought I'd see the day when it pays more to do outbound telesales - good job market? I think you are in for a shock. I've witnessed 1 or 2 Mum's worry about being FTC to know that if you can and are able to job hop then that is what you must do so wouldn't diss it. Only regrets are you might miss out on real constructive criticism or know how to deal with a negative 'long termer'.

Perceptions, perceptions. As much as this is fantastic feedback you've received, it could be as a result of right place, right people.

Being a round peg in a square hole can be soul destroying, if there are no development opportunities I'd consider looking to move onwards and upwards.

Anyone care to take a bet on how long blueandwhiterose will be on the boards for? I'm going to say they will be gone by the end of tomorrow :D

    Anyone else care to bid?
  • I think you have been given good advice. Use the spare time you have to find out where you want to be in 5 years time; what sphere, what level, what location.

Then dig in at your current job for another 12 months and work towards getting yourself qualified for whatever it is you have decided upon.

Whilst you do this remember not to let your somewhat derogatory assessment of the intelligence of those you work with show! Regardless of whether it is factual!

I used the time as a SAHM to gain two degrees which meant that when I was ready to pick up a career I had options. Qualifications are rarely wasted.
  • Perhaps your manager is hoping you!!!8217;ll agree you!!!8217;re wasted in your current position & leave?
