Conversely I know of numerous accountants who claimed £50 (example) for expenses which was also investigated (and turned out to be uninvoiced, estimated and not allowable), yet they had over 1,000 clients who claimed the same expense sum for, hence £50,000 of excess expenses at least - was it wrong for your case to be checked when the same expense item was checked here just for more people at once?

Yes, it was wrong as it was for a receipted/documented expense, which we provided the invoice to the tax inspector along with full explanation of why it was being claimed as a valid expense. Letter after letter from tax inspector being a right pain in the bum about it and completely ignoring our references to the taxes acts, their own manual and case law!

That's a completely different scenario from rogue accountants who put expenses through all their clients accounts without proof/documentation etc, which is basically fraud.

although oddly a pilot scheme was offered to limit the recovery to 2 years with only a 10% penalty! Anyone who didn't take up the offer suffered a full enquiry for 6-20 years-worth and up to 100% penalty. Not really a level playing field.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing! ;)
