Hi
A quick one as try as I might, I can't find an answer on Google and emailing TfL has proved non fruitful as they can't tell me (???)
Can someone with colour vision (ie. Me) pass a medical for becoming a Hackney Carriage driver in London. I know there is a medical but not sure if Colour Vision is a big no no. It is a DVLA Group 2 exam I think a doctor subjects you to for the application.
Thanks

All id suggest is do not use a company called Doctors on Wheels...i did my medical with them when looking at taking HGV test.
Sat in back of a converted Transit i was asked to read a Chart and said sorry cant...was asked to read with my Glasses, struggled after first line and guess what...passed A1 fit and healthy.
Few weeks later my optician said i was technically blind as had no prescription left in either eye.
Good news i was then referred to hospital to have cataracts removed...Yet could potentially have been behind the wheel of a 40 Ton lorry.0 -
Can't help with this specific question, but I only found out that I was a type of red/green colour blind during my RAF medical.
Luckily, I was still able to join in my chosen trade - I just couldn't drive airside due to the use of different coloured warning lights etc.
Normal driving isn't a problem - traffic lights are 'top for stop'. (Joking - I'm not that bad !)0 -

Another female who's colour blind - isn't it annoying when people say that women can't be?0 -

Very! I think the official figures are 1 x colour blind woman for every 10 x colour blind men. However, it appears to be less than that simply because most women still don't enter professions which routinely use colour vision tests - and therefore remain in happy undiagnosed ignorance.0 -
