Hi,
I am in the process of starting to study for my CeMap qualification. (waiting for my study material to arrive!)
I have just had a quick look at a couple of mock papers online and I am now terrified... surely I can’t be the only who has looked at the mock papers before studying and not had a clue what the questions meant, never mind the answers?
I am thinking of trying to study a lot for a shorter period and doing the exam ASAP rather than drag it out through 8 months as I know I will put off studying!! I am thinking I will book the cemap 1 exam for three minutes this after receiving my material. Does this sound do-able?! Study for 2 hours 5 days a week?
Thanks

CeMap 1 is horrendous. I am genuinely not sure if I could pass it now after 5 years doing the job! But it is a necessary evil. The others are a doddle by comparison.
As for how long you need to study, that is a bit difficult to answer as everyone is different. I failed the exam twice and then sat the higher exam and passed. Overall I reckon I spent 6 months revising, but the 2 first 2 times I was just playing at it. I tend to find I do the bare minimum in exams and scrape by, this was the first exam I have had to really sit and read the study material.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks for your reply ACG. I!!!8217;m honestly dreading it! My revision technique isn!!!8217;t up to scratch and i haven!!!8217;t studied in years however I guess it isn!!!8217;t going to get easier and as this is the career path I want to take I need to figure out how to get this done! I currently work in a mortgage administration role so do know a certain amount about mortgages. This won!!!8217;t help me in CeMap 1 though I don!!!8217;t think!
I have always been very similar to yourself.. do minimum and scrape by but a pass is a pass! However I do feel it!!!8217;s going to be a lot different for CeMap!
I was feeling ready to begin studying and looking forward to the new challenge until I saw a test paper!0 -
Hi, I am new to this forum, is anyone out there who’s gotten self study materials that they could spare for someone wanting to write the CeMAP 1,2,3 exams.
Thanks in anticipation0 -
Let's not be too dramatic everyone.

The problem with CeMAP is its very very very very BORING. Or at least it was in 2006 when I sat the exam. If you are intending to do this as bedtime reading then be warned, you will be asleep after 15 minutes and won't remember any of it in the morning.
That said if you are dedicated and you have the drive to make a career out of it then there is no reason why you can't pass it with regular study. You need functional maths skills and the ability to retain a lot of (boring) information and the ability how to spot a double negative or ambiguous question. I seem to remember using the technique of "if I don't know it work out what the answer can't be" to get some of the questions right.
One thing you shouldn't do with this exam is rush. When I took it I already had a Financial Advice qualification and was working as a trainee adviser. If I'd taken it as a mortgage administrator I think I would have found it a lot harder.
I'm a cynical old woman so don't let my rantings put you off. As with any daunting task break it down into small manageable chunks, take your time chipping away at it, and you will get there eventually.
Its a great job if you like helping people and have a logical mind.I am a Mortgage Adviser

There is no point in doing it this way because your exam cost is exactly the same as the cost of the materials. You pay for the materials and exam at the same time and then pay for resits if needed.
LIBF do this to stop people buying second hand out of date materials.
If you are on a modest income LIBF have a student bursary fund where you can get up to 50% of the course fees and pay the balance in instalments, so don't let the cost put you off. They also have online support.I am a Mortgage Adviser

The Taxation part two is horrible.. I’ve had to leave it and booked a day leave to get to grips with it :rotfl::rotfl: I think I’m going to go online and see if I can find a better explanation of CGT and IHT How this is relevant for being an MA I will never know!0

Hiya.. not sure if anyone is still active on here! I’m thinking of studying CeMAP. I’ll be honest, I’ve no idea what my dream job is or if I even have one (at the moment). I’m 22 and stressing out that I have no solid career path yet. Basically, what I’m wondering is... what is the process? How many “levels” if that’s the right word? I would study part time, I already have 2 jobs but would leave one to study as much as I can.. and will I be employable as soon as passing? Obviously I would need actual work experience to work my way up... but what I mean is, would I be employable anywhere at all straight away from becoming CeMAP qualified? E.g a bank?
Fingers crossed someone see’s this, and pardon my ignorance as I haven’t done much research YET! Also, I’m a bit unsure as to how to use this website..0 -
A bank or estate agent may take you on. With little to no experience it is unlikely a local brokerage would take you on with no experience. The exams have no real relevance to the actual job.

These days it is unlikely a bank will take you on without CAS unless you already work for the bank in another capacity. Trainee and new to a company are just a total headache combination. Estate agents are the most likely to take someone on, but don't expect a very rewarding working environment, especially in the big corporate chains.... There is a reason why they are always desperate to recruit new advisors.0
