Debt Collection Email, wanting Name and Address?

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, if there's a better one please let me know.
Received the email below, company and email looks pretty legit.
I can't think of any company I owe money to, I've never had one of these in my life!
They're asking for my name and address before they'll supply any information, is this right, surely they should supply the details of the company at least?
I just feel they want to get my current address to chase me (or some other dirty tricks I'm not aware of) rather than confirm I'm the person in question that owes the money.
Advice appreciated!

It's a phishing trip by a debt collection agency.
It means they're not sure if you are the one they want, and are asking you to confirm your details so they can find out.
Best advice? Totally ignore, and see if anything comes by post."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Ignore until they send you a letter.0

Hi bargi
The email sounds very speculative as others have observed, and until such time as you get something by post from this company there isn't much for you to go on.
It might be worth checking your credit report for any signs of anything untoward/unexpected.

You only need respond to written communication.
Not emails,
Not texts,
Only letters.

Hey,
Did anything come of this? I've had a similar email from the same company and some texts & a missed call. I haven't responded to any of it yet.
As far as my mind can remember I don't owe anybody money!
Does the advice in this thread still stand? Will they leave me alone?
Cheers0 -

Thank you for your quick reply!
They started with a call/text and now seemed to have obtained my email? How did they get it?
I've made a few errors in the past but that was 6 years ago, they set off all sort of emotions! Rechecked my credit report and nothing has changed.
I hope this doesn't mess with my credit score as I've got it well on track and hoping to get a mortgage soon!
Thanks again sourcrates0 -

Just inform them you will deal with them in writing only.
You will not call them, and they must not call you, tell them to remove any phone numbers they have for you, from their systems, and to contact you in writing only from now on.
Debt collectors love using the phone as its quick, and anything agreed cannot be proven, basically, its there number one weapon of choice, it allows them to attempt to persuade you to pay in full, or pay more than you can afford, it allows them to manipulate you, and they will say things they would never dare put into writing.
Golden rule, anything debt related, deal with in writing only.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
