Feed yourself for a day with no store cupboard....

Whilst waiting in the cold this evening for a bus I got to thinking what was the smallest amount of money you could spend on a whole days food imagining you had nothing at all in the cupboards. I reckon I can do it for £3.52 (using the prices on mySupermarket) and still get in 5-a-day.

My shopping list is:
1 banana - 11p
1 apple - 15p
1 orange - 24p
4 Baking potatoes - 50p
1 carrot - 6p
1 onion - 8p
1 pint semi skimmed milk - 40p
Value butter - 68p
Tinned mandarins in juice - 22p
Value plain flour - 39p
Red lentils - 69p

And my meal plan is
Breakfast: Potato scones (mashed potato, flour, butter) + 1/3 tin mandarins (no juice)
Snack: Stewed apple + little mandarin juice
Lunch: Veggie Soup - Half carrot, 1/4 onion, lentils, little mandarin juice + flatbread (flour, water)
Snack: Mandarins
Dinner: Potato wedges + onion, carrot
Dessert: Fruit salad (Orange, banana)
Drinks are either water (free) or milk.

So, can anyone do any cheaper? Try not to have the same thing for each main meal (for example a giant pan of veggie soup for the whole day). This was fairly difficult for me to do, as I'm so used to the idea of things in the cupboard. But I think I did ok :)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Shopping list:

    Loaf of bread - 32p
    Baf of pasta - 19p
Jar of bolognese sauce - 27p
    Box mushrooms - 62p
    Tub of margerine - 24p
Tin of baked beans - 17p
    Potato - 15p
    Onion - 8p
    Carrots - 15p
    Parsnip - 19p
Tin of fruit cocktail - 22p

    Total: £3.32

Breakfast - half the tin of beans & fried mushrooms on toast (2/5)
    Lunch - Veg soup (2/5)
    Dinner - pasta & mushroom bolognese (2/5)
    Snacks/dessert - fruit (2/5) or toast

And I reckon there'd be enough left to have the same the following day so it's effectively £1.66 for the day and getting more than the 5 a day :)
