my son is going skiing in February to Austria I would like to get him some thermal longjohns and vests I know M&S sell them but they are a bit expensive. Does anybody know were I can buy some very cheaply he would need age 14-15 or a small mans size. We do have some M&S that he uses for football but I have a strange feeling that anything that goes to Austria might remain there as he is forever losing items of clothing:mad:  . Thanks

Hello rev229
I've bought thermal vests and leggings from Matalan in previous years. They keep you nice and warm and wash/launder well too.;)

I regularly go skiing as does my OH - neither of us take thermal undies with us because they are just too hot. We have both found that we can get away with wearing normal undies, proper skiing salopettes, a t-shirt and ski jacket (with optional hat and/or neck warmer) and gloves.
We find salopettes are better because they come up higher thus stopping snow from going down your back. Personally, I don't see any real need to take thermal undies - yes, if you're going to the Artic Circle but not necessary for Austria.0 -

I noticed some in the womens section in primark recently, really cheap too. I'm sure if he didn't see you buy them and you took out the womens size label he'd never know...*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150

Thanks for the advice, never been skiing myself. We went to disneyland paris 3 years ago and it was -7 and he was rather cold although I expect he will be warmer skiing as he will have the skiing tops and bottoms. He doesn't normally feel the cold, but does wear his thermals for football (goalkeeper!). I think I will buy 1 cheapo lot from primark. Have you any other useful tips about travelling to Austria? The school have done the trip before and are very organised but it will be his first time skiing and being away from home for a week you just worry because as a mum you want to make sure they are well prepared well fed and warm.0
