Mystery Shopping, Merchandising etc Companies

List of companies below. Please note I haven't personally checked out every single company on the list or am aware of what work they offer. The offer all or some of the following:
Mystery shopping - following a set brief and reporting on service recieved in shops, eating places, leisure services and telephone helplines.
Merchandising - going into a store on behalf of a manufacturer with the aim of promotion their product. You might have to increase shelf space, set up secondary displays, add point of sale material or set up promotional stands.
Auditing - going into a store on behalf of the manufacturer and reporting what is there. Typical things to find out are stock levels, number of facings for each product, shelf measurements and/or floor space.
Market Research - speaking with members of the public and asking their opinions on various things. Sometimes it's standing in the street, or it could be knocking on doors.
Demonstrating - we've all seen them! People who give away free samples in shops or show you how products work.
You may get regular merchandising, but usually work is allocated on an ad-hoc basis. Don't rely on ongoing employment, but if you are registered with enough companies, you can usually get enough to keep you busy.
Companies allocate by various different methods and like results in different ways too. Give different companies try, and you'll soon find out which ones you like working for.
Lastly don't ask me questions like "who mystery shops Top Shop?", "how much do Retail Eyes pay?", etc. I'm bound by confidentiality and companies take a very dim view of you mentioning their clients or fees in public.

thanks ever so :T i thought they would all be in the London area and i'm in Newcastle. i'll be signing up with all of them and i love travelling :j0
-
Yes, thanks so much Becles! Like Maxybaby I thought that this only went on in London so never gave it much thought. I am moving down to Co. Durham next month and will be looking for a career change and this sounds perfect. I wonder if you can make a full-time wage out of it?? Better start registering methinks! :dance:0
-
It's possible to make a full time wage, but you do need to put a lot of work into it and register with many companies. You need to be good at time management so you can book work in the same town on the same day from different companies.
The job is insecure - some weeks I earn a lot so save some and that compensates for the weeks when I earn barely enough to live on. You need to be able to budget too.
I live in the area, and manage to find enough to keep a roof over our heads. It suits me as I can't do a regular job due to a health problem, so the flexibility is great. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Hey Becles - thanks for your post.
I agree with your comments about mystery shopping. It is hard work but it's great for pin money.0 -
