I once temped at a fruit-packing place (in an admin role) for a few weeks and asked what the marks on the shutter doors were, when being shown around the factory. Yeah, same thing so I guess it is pretty common. This is not to say it is unavoidable after all, a moment's lapse in concentration can kill!
Having said which, surely it is safer for human life to have forks raised above the height of most humans rather than lowered? I would much prefer to injure an inanimate object than a living creature, in the main.
OP, just be far more careful in future, learn from this and please, never, ever allow this to happen again. The other FLT story I heard was of an experienced driver running over his own foot while dismounting (?) Now, that must have taken some effort! He made a full recovery, I think.0 -
No it wasn't, you knew the forks were raised, you should have realised how high they were and how low the doors were.It was a complete accident.
I'm not saying a disciplinary is justified or not but you don't help your case by claiming you had no responsibility for it.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

Close to one out of every four fatalities occurs when a forklift tips over. Forklifts can easily tip if they are overloaded, if the load is not well balanced, or if they travel with the forks too high. So no, It is not safer. Not at all.0 -
Thank you for the clarification, Lioness.0

I have heard that story but of a PPT rather than a FLT. There was also an incident of a PPT driver falling off his machine during a turn. Some accidents sound comical! This sort of thing confirms to me why they are looking for signs of intelligent life on other planets, we must be desperate:oSometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.0 -

Well, when they find one, may I sit next to you on the shuttle, TyreLever? We can leave this one to the entitled chavs. Wonder what they will do when there are no tax payers left to support them?0
