Plans for a Sea View

  • Well not much has happened since I last posted.
Had a lovely letter of the mortgage company to say they have received my £900 and would be reducing my monthly payments by around £7, I have therefore set a SO to transfer this amount to the Mortgage Overpayment savings account every month. The plan is still to wait until there is £500 in that account and then transfer it over, I'm just desperate for it to increase quicker so I can make overpayments.

I've also set up a regular saver at the Halifax which I currently add £50 per month too, started small to make sure we were still ok money wise before upping it to a larger sum. I will pay this off the mortgage when it matures.

We went to check on our caravan yesterday and I'm desperate for the season to start so we can get back on the beach, and I can start eyeing up the vans with sea views.

Have been really good and talked myself out of going out to buy lunch and just had a mug shot out of my drawer at work, will have to spend tonight though as need to pay for DD1's new martial arts suit!! She needs to stop growing so fast.

So another month in and still not much has happened, does anyone else get disheartened that its not going as fast as they would like?

I really want to start paying more off but as the BOI tend to like payments of over £500 and our monthly target is £200 I knew I wasn't going to get a payment sent in to them every month but it still makes it feel like I'm not doing much.

I have an account with money in that I am saving until I am the BIG 40 so we can go on a long family holiday to Australia as this is somewhere that I have always wanted to visit. I have been building it up in a Leeds BS regular saver but have heard they may be scraping them after this year :(
I have thought about maybe buying premium bonds with the cash and then drawing it all out nearer the time we will need it which won't be for another few years. I love the idea of maybe winning big but still having the capital to draw out. Any thoughts??

I have been trying the Marie Kondo method of sorting out my clothes, has anyone else tried this? I'm quite good at throwing out the clothes that don't spark joy but her idea of thanking your clothes as you get rid of them strikes me as a little odd. I have cleared quite a bit in my wardrobe though, does that mean I can go buy more? Asking for a friend. :rotfl:

It can be frustrating when you just want it gone today but I just keep reminding myself where I would be without the overpayments. You're doing great.

  • Yep another here that gets disheartened with the slow progress over OP, but keep going in my hamster wheel knowing at some point in the future I can get off and it will all be mine. You'll get there too.

I find that thanking the clothes helps me get rid of them easier. A quick 'thank you, goodbye' and I can toss the item straight into the charity shop bag without it accidentally hanging itself up again :o. And yes, you can go and buy more, as long as they spark joy :D. If you've 'done' your clothes you should know what you really like/suit and also anything that you really have a gap for.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
