Ink Refills

I have two new Epson printers, D92 and a DX5050. They both use the same cartridges.
I bought some compatibles off Ebay, I know if the printer was manufactured a certain year you have to have a certain type of refill.
Anyway, my DX5050 was working fine for a couple of weeks and then for some reason I was getting very patchy printing from the Cyan.
I tried loads of cleaning etc on it but it made no difference. In the end I went and bought another printer, D92, as I need to have a working printer for my business. (I needed a backup anyway) I also bought a set of epson originals and compatibles from Tesco. I tried the Tesco one in my D92 and it didn't even register they were there. I put originals in both and they are now very happy.
I am going to take the Tesco ones back (the lady said I could if they didn't work). My question is, is it possible for me to refill the original Epson cartridges myself?. I have never done this before but for obvious cost reasons would like to do it so that at least my D92 can run off them. I would continue to use originals in my DX5050 as I use this for brochures and need the quality.

Have you just tried to get discount cartridges online by Epson, in bulk or from people like Viking Direct? I've found than many printers can get very upset with 3rd party inks. But different people and printers get different results.0
