What Cheap & Tasty Chinese Ready Meals you have had?

Could someone please recommend some Chinese ready meals that they have had recently?

I have tried a lot of supermarket brands but they don't quite taste anything like Chinese.

Me and my family enjoy ready meals as they are handy to eat, for lunch at work or for the kids and want suggestions on Chinese meals within £1-£1.50 range.

I look forward to your responses.

  • I have tried various from different stores, such as Mayflower range, Oriental Express, but my local Heron Frozen Food Store and Cooltrader sell a particular type called Mai Mai Chinese Range.

I love the Chinese Chicken Curry & Fried Rice meal which only costs £1!!!! I have these packed for my husband and son for their meals at work.

They also do Chinese fried rices, Chow Meins, both in Chicken and pork. I've seen them around the west midlands in convenience stores as well, but I can vouch that these are the best around and i think they are made by a chinese company, https://www.maimai.co.uk and have been around for a number of years.

check them out at your local Heron frozen food or cooltrader.
  • yup, i'd agree with pindigo, these are definately the best out in the market at the moment.

i live in Barnsley and I get them from my local Jack Fulton store and Heron Frozen Food Store, they are only a £1 for 420g. not only do they smell chinese but you get alot compared with other chinese ready meals such as mayflower.

we have been having their curry mix powder for a long time as well, simply cook it with chicken or veg or both and you have a wonderful meal
  • thanks for the suggestions, I'll try and look out for these, where is my nearest Heron Frozen food store?

I'm off out shopping later and shall try and locate these ready meals
  • You could try making your own and freezing it!

We tried the ones from Iceland last week - £1.50 for their Char Sui Pork and same for the Chicken in Black bean sauce - fried rice for £1, thought they were lovely.

I went to my local freezer centre called cooltrader, ( you can locate your local store at http://www.cooltrader.co.uk/) and grabbed one of each of the Mai Mai Chinese Chicken Curries, Chow Mein and Fried Rice. Just had a Special curry and fried rice and they are amazing !:p

They were only £1 for 410g, and filled me right up, my daughter enjoyed the Chicken Chow Mein and wife enjoyed the Special Fried Rice. Fed and satisfied the family for £3.

The manager at the store where I got them, mentioned they're a real good seller and have been around for a number of years. I never seen them at the supermarket.

Not only do they taste Chinese but they smell Chinese as soon as they come out the microwave.:T

Well recommended, I'm off back tomorrow to stock the freezer up.
  • glad you managed to get your hands on them, i've had them for years and everyone (more than 50 staff) in my work place buys them from the local heron, cooltrader stores up here north. they're only a quid and you get a full tasty meal.:D

they are better than the supermarket stuff which aren't even made by chinese people. i think they're based in bilston, west midlands and are a family.

i don't think you see them in the local asda's or tescos, as that's the thing with supermarkets nowadays, they don't really support local businesses at all.

we shop at Heron Frozen Food Stores quite often as they have good quality foods at cheap prices.

    Hi vinny,

I don't really understand why you asked this question and now say you will look out for these meals when you have already recommended them yourself in another thread ten minutes before you began this one.

Something a bit odd going on here I think.
