lentil / split pea help please

So much experience on this board, so I'm hoping for advice.
I cannot get on with lentils - even the finest 'puy' or 'beluga' seem dry & uninteresting; although I love other pulses and cook all sorts of dried beans & peas a lot.
This recipe looks gorgeous:

You have to scroll down to find it - though the other recipes are good too! It is a stew of pardina lentils (I don't know them) and tomatoes into which you stir caramelised walnuts and cubes of goats' cheese. These are 2 favourite things and I love the sound of it, we love tasty, mushy stews with some crunch and contrast added.
So: does anyone know anything about pardina lentils?
Does anyone think I could substitute yellow split peas? Especially as I have a mislaid packet about to go out of date (and was planning on pease pudding!)

Tbh I don't think yellow split peas would be a good substitute in this case, they breakdown too much. Better with brown or green lentils if you have them0
