Hi there,
No idea where to post this...please feel free to move if in wrong place.
I moved house on 13 july. I contacted Virgin and set a date for them to disconnect my phone and internet.
2 weeks ago i received a letter from a debt collection agency saying they were collecting money on behalf of Virgin - i know i paid last bill and even kept all paperwork!
I phoned Virgin. They said my phone had been disconnected fine, but somehow my internet disconnection had failed - they said it clearly showed i had asked for it to be disconnected....they said they would do it and contact debt agency so i would receive no more letters.
Today i have received another letter from debt agency saying i am trying to dodge the debt!
Phoned Virgin again - they again say they will contact debt agency to cancel the debt and its their error not mine.
My questions is this: Obvioulsy this default (non payment) will show on my credit history, is there anything that can be done to remove it? I have a good credit history and i don't like the fact that i have now have a bad mark against my name because of virgins incompetence.
I did ask their credit control and they said there was nothing - i disagree...surely they can write to the credit agency they use and update it somehow....they do share information so must have contact somehow....??
Sorry to nag on but its really annoyed me.

Once you get Virgin and the debt collectors sorted out, wait a couple of months then get a copy of your credit record (from experian and equifax). If anything shows up on the records about this, you can contact the credit agencies and tell them this is incorrect and they should remove it. You can usually do this via their website. It takes a bit of time but it does work (have just been through something similar).0
