I have been managing a franchise for 15 years with very little support from the owner , he owns another franchise which is financially doing better than mine .Before Christmas I unexpectedly lost a number of staff which has had a considerable impact on the business , I have been trying to recruit but the lack of staff has made it very difficult to complete any managerial tasks . I have had no support from the franchise holder only criticism when complaints are received or targets aren’t met . I have been off I’ll with the flu and the franchise holder has just thanked the manager of the other franchise for lending my branch a staff member he has also apologised to him for the stress it has caused !! I have asked for a meeting first thing Monday morning but the owner has included the other manager ! Sorry just as an add on , the franchise owner and other manager are of the same nationality and share the same religious beliefs , I feel vindicated and would like advice.

What exactly are you feeling vindicated about? And why are you vindicated by the franchise owner and the other manager sharing ethnicity and/ faith? Are you being racist?I have been managing a franchise for 15 years with very little support from the owner , he owns another franchise which is financially doing better than mine .Before Christmas I unexpectedly lost a number of staff which has had a considerable impact on the business , I have been trying to recruit but the lack of staff has made it very difficult to complete any managerial tasks . You have lost staff, and your business unit has failed to replace them. So the business unit is missing targets and presumably losing money. And you think it is everyone else's fault? And now you'd like to demand a meeting with the franchise owner because he apologised to the other manager for loaning you cover? Seriously?0 -
Im assuming you meant to type Victimised.0

I don't think you're being treated unfairly here. You're currently not doing a great job of managing the business, what do you actually want the owner to do?0
-
Hmm, so just to recap:
- Nobody wants a job at your franchise
- A load of staff leave just before Christmas (often an expensive time of the year)
- You are relying on other franchises "lending" you staff, inconveniencing themselves in the process (I'm sure you'd get similar praise if the roles were reversed).
Sorry but to me the problem seems to be staff retention/attraction and nothing else (more so nothing to do with skin colour or religious beliefs). So you've gotta start asking two questions:
1. Why are people leaving?
2. Why aren't people joining?
Address those two and I suspect that your franchise would do A LOT better. Then you'd get the praise from the owner, who only really wants to see a healthy bank balance.... I don't know anything about your business, but (and don't take this the wrong way) if you can't see the reasons why then it might well be management causing the issues....
PS, have a look into attrition planning as well because these things can often be planned and nailed down to ensure a much more dynamic and effective hiring process across the year.0 -
Why not bite the bullet and take the opportunity to learn from the other manager who at least is staffed sufficiently?0

You’re annoyed because your store was down two staff, and another store helped man your store, and was thanked/apologised to for the inconvience...
Okay next time why don’t they just shut your store. Doesn’t sound like it would make any difference financially if you’re doing so poorly. Would you rather they just closed it due to staff shortage?!0 -
We constantly have posters on here complaining they can't even secure a minimum wage job and yet here's a situation where a business is failing to attract workers.
OP you need to be asking yourself why you can't attract workers and why was there a mass exodus before Xmas. The answers shouldn't be too difficult to find.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

You're the manager...manage.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
You may or may not have been treated unfairly , impossible to tell from what you've posted. Likewise as to whether the other two are colluding ( though cronyism is certainly a big problem in many workplaces).
What I really don't understand is why you're complaining about the manager thanking/ apologising to others who've been inconvenienced . Surely that's just common courtesy and not neccesarily intended as a slight ?
You say you've been managing it 15 years - are the problems recent ? Did the staff that left go on good terms , to a higher paid job etc. , or was there some kind of incident or falling out ?
Did you tell your manager why you want a meeting ? It's possible he's invited the other manager because he's assuming you're going to ask for help or maybe to borrow staff.
I'd think very carefully about what you're going to say0
