Turned down for an AIP

I am hoping for some advise to help us obtain a mortgage.
Me and my husband earn a combined salary of £95,000 and are looking for a mortgage of about £180,000 with a 20% deposit. I have only tried to get an AIP from our bank online, but have been turned down.
We currently owe about £5,500 on credit cards, but maintain all of the payments. We live way below our means in general and spend most of our money on discretionary items.
I have checked my credit file on Noddle and have a rating of 3/5, but my husbands is only 1/5 due to two old accounts he defaulted on and isn’t currently paying off (two accounts he disputes but they keep chasing)
What can we do to get a mortgage?
Thanks

You'll need to sort out the adverse credit first, and go to a good mortgage broker who will be able to assess your particular situation. You could apply for a mortgage in your name only, but it's best to wait a while and sort out both your finances first, it'll be much better for you both in the long run. I know it sucks waiting when you really want your own home, but it's a huge commitment and you really do need to make sure you can afford it. A broker will help you move in the right direction. Good luck.0

You should not be running credit scores blind with defaults on the record.
Stop before you do any more damage and engage a Mortgage Broker as suggested.I am a Mortgage Broker
