Hi im part of a night shift team , on Saturday the four staff contracted to work that night were informed that the manager had phoned in sick and they did not have another manager to do the shift so they cancelled that shift. They gave the four staff the options to either put it in as holiday or not get paid, Is there anything that we can do ? I think its unfair that they are not getting paid as it was not there fault that there shift was cancelled

What are their contracted hours?0

there contracted hrs are 20 over 3 shifts thurs, fri & sat 10pm till 6am0

Are they being paid for 20 hours ? That's 24 hours for those shifts so it seems they could be 4 hours down.0

we get 3 half hr breaks unpaid0

So still an extra two and half hours unpaid labour each week..we get 3 half hr breaks unpaid
I don't think they are able to cancel a shift at short notice and not pay. They certainly can't insist that you take the cancelled shift as a holiday.
Time to look for a better employer..0 -

I agree that it's time to look for a better employer. The rest I can't. Are they workers or employees? What are their contractual terms exactly ? And do they have 2 years employment? A union? People are guessing here. Guesses aren't law.Moneyineptitude wrote: »So still an extra two and half hours unpaid labour each week..
