Hi, Can my husband get a mortgage in just his name? I am thinking about getting a credit card to transfer my husbands debt to me, so his credit rating is better. We are not financially connected, but would this connect us and would he stand a better chance of getting a mortgage?
Many thanks

Will you be occupying the property? A fair whack of lenders wouldn't like it, but some would be fine with it.
Get a broker and let them do the digging on which lender is best for youI am a Mortgage Broker.

As husband and wife you are financially inter connected by default. A fact thats unavoidable.0 -

Being married does not link people’s credit files. Having joint financial products does though.

Opening a credit card in your name to transfer a balance from a card in your husband’s name will not create a financial link because credit cards only have a principal card holder. However, some BT credit cards do not permit you to transfer a balance from one person’s name to another.0

Of course he can get a mortgage in just his name, I've always only had a mortgage based solely on my earnings and never had a problem from lenders.0

A few factors to consider, where the deposit is coming from, will you be living there.
