Insuring against an event is a good idea when the chance of the event occurring is small but the consequence would be large and financially hard to bear. So you insure and pool the risk with many other customers.

My last post was very tongue-in-cheek; your post made us chuckle
. My projected life expectancy is reduced by around 7 years at the moment and OH is currently projected to die a year/two after me . We are neck-and-neck in the race to the bottom!
The advice here has been very helpful. We will look at the cost of taking life insurance on OH, and will also review the impact of ring-fencing OH's DC as a source of extra income for me should he die first. Some type of annuity could be an option at some point so we will keep an eye on that market too.
