Paying for training-apcoa parking

My wife took a job with apcoa parking in December as a traffic warden, she's decided it's not for her and wants out.
Having discussed this with her manager he has scared her in to staying saying she'll have to pay for all the training she's received.
Here's the thing,
The training was completed before she started the position
It was conducted by her manager at the office with several other new staff
There were no outside agency's brought in to assist
Basically she sat in the room through the day learning about cars and contraventions, she then spent most of her evenings revising this information.
I can't see how this constitutes a training course that the company are claiming they are out of pocket for?
Any advise/help would be very much appreciated.

I’d argue this isn’t “training” but on the job instruction/ induction. Is there an employer policy focusing on the managers intentions? If not I’d be going above his head and or contacting HR.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

She needs to check her contract and also any other documents she has signed. What do they say about reimbusrsing training costs?0

If the training was done before she either started the job, or before she received the contract, I don't think they would be able to recover the training costs. Any cost would seem to be minimal anyway if she was with a group of other people and was conducted by the manager.0

I stress that I am not an expert. However, my understanding is that unless she has been working under a contract which specifically authorises deduction of training expenses in the event of leaving, they are simply trying it on and cannot legally reclaim these expenses. Even if the contract does provide for reclaim of training expenses, they are on a fairly sticky wicket if they are proposing high costs for in-house training. Incidentally, was she paid to attend this training? If not, I suspect any sort of legal adviser would suggest a counter claim to claim at least min wage for the time spent attending the training......Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0
