Home Insurance An Bankruptcy

HI,
I was made bankrupt about 2 weeks ago. My partner who is not bankrupt just had her Home insurance renewal through and it states that she must tell them if someone is bankrupt who i living with her.
I have now looked at a couple of insurance companies and a few say they will not insure you if someone at your address is a bankrupt.
Can anyone tell me why this is and what companies will insure you if you have a bankrupt living with you?
Thanks,
Paul

Well.. I'm with royal sun alliance more than insurance for our household contents cover & they know about my BR & i'm still allowed to keep a policy with them, the only thing I did was transfer the DD payments to another account (as the OR was closing my current acc I had)

Hi worriedaboutitall
I can only really talk about our (Norwich Union's) processes and I have just spoken to a household underwriter who has confirmed that in our case we do not ask the question about bankruptcy at all... it doesn't affect our cover.
I hope this helps?

We were NEVER asked - our home insurance was arranged through the Halifax and has been, automatically renewed for the last ten years. As the Halifax held both our mortgage and the deeds of the house, as well as an account which was frozen on my bankruptcy, they would have been aware of my bankruptcy, and, since they never asked me, I have never felt the need to inform them.
I was, however, asked about Home Insurance at my OR interview and filled in the details on my OR form.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I am not (yet) bankrupt but I had to make a claim on my contents insurance earlier this year and remember being asked if anyone at our house was bankrupt. I thought it an odd question at the time. I should have asked if it would have made a difference to our claim but as usual I felt guilty making a claim.

Pretty certain Barclays don't ask if you're bankrupt0

many do not ask about bankruptcy, they do ask about convictions more so
I confirm that Halifax do not - underwriter is St Andrews0 -
I don't see a problem with insurance as long as you keep up the premium payments?BR 4/10/07
