    On second point, I have only had info from SAUL about leaving, which just contains a line in about transferring to USS

    Definitely get a quotation (actually proceeding would be a second explicit step). If the only possible transfer is into the DC section, I would pause, however if that isn't the case, transferring may be on special terms above what the current DB section offers, in order to be comparable to the original SAUL terms.

    I disagree with the implication of that. By then it was clear, in my view, that USS was already entering the mire. I invite you to google “Pension fund punt could undermine UK universities” and click through to Plender's article in the FT. Prescient?
