Agency/Permanent Work?

I've been weighing up this job that I seen advertised through an agency, advertised as being permanent - full time, this will probably sound like a stupid question, but are permanent jobs that are advertised through an agency, actually through them, or are you through the actual employer? I've always been a bit skeptical on taking up a job through an agency as I've always associated it with being more of a risk of the employer being able to turn you away a lot easier etc.

I'm assuming the agency just filter out the applications for the employer?

They could be either but most likely with the employer. You will know when you see whose name is on the contract you sign.

Depends on if its an employment agency or a recruitment agency. Recruitment agencies act for the employer to find them someone to fill a permanent vacancy for which the employer pays a one off fee to the agency. It saves the employer having to trawl through hundreds of CVs.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............

Just seen this on their website for permanent jobs -

For the purposes of the Conduct Regulations 2003, when advertising permanent vacancies we are acting as an Employment Agency, and when advertising temporary/contract vacancies we are acting as an Employment Business.
