Creating and saving a back up of Diaries/Threads

in Debt free diaries
Hi,
Have been informed that it is possible to save Diaries and Threads by saving them page by page in html format.
By right clicking on the displayed page and selecting "Save as" and then "Webpage, complete" to the file or folder of your choice on PC or external storage device...
Can the Forum Team confirm as to whether this would indeed help to restore a thread or diary that has been deleted?
Was informed that as it is saved in html format (coded) it is easier to do but I am not a Tech and don't really understand coding etc.
Have been backing up my diary this way and just want to be sure if that it will be safe.

    That will work, in the sense that it will save the content. It won't let you restore the posts literally, but will give you the text of them that you could copy paste important bit into new diary posts.

    To that end, if you are just caring about content like that, then it may be better to use the thread tools dropdown men to "Show printable version" 1st, as that shows the thread in a much simpler format with the text, and not all the rest of the web's clutter of formatting/images/sidebar. Just the thread content, and not mush else.

    I've copied my diary as I'm worried mine may be next for the chop :eek:. At least then I could reinstate important bits into a new diary. It stops me worrying about losing it :o.

    A techy friend recommended using the html format, as it is what he would use to help restore a lost page cos of the code / data etc. I'm not techy, so I may use your recommendation to simplify my back-ups.

    Doesn't help us who can't back up to anywhere though, or us who have already lost so much.

    The reason it's happening should be dealt with. Soon there'll be no diaries left of the 'regulars'

    Back ups can be made to a folder on an Internal hard drive, USB stick, external hard drive...

    For folks using tablets / phones I haven't yet figured out how to do it but I will keep looking. If anyone using phone / tablet has found a way to save back ups of their threads / diaries then please share, thanks.

    It looks like the Forum Team have been able to bring back a few of the lost threads and diaries, so please folks if your old diary hasn't re-appeared... it may be that they've not yet got to it so, post up on here and also contact the team to ask (nicely) if they can help out or provide a wee update.
