tv license

my tv license needs renewed at the end of this month- i pay it in a one-er in cash (last time at my local coop)
i seem to remember they always sent a reminder but its getting late and i'm wondering when it should come.

they did send a 'please set up direct debit' letter 3 months ago. (which i though was a bit cheeky).

anyone know how this works these days?

If you have a cashback credit card, pay the TV licence with that. There is no extra charge for paying the TV licence online by credit card and you will get cashback (could be 4% if you have the new capital one card).

maybe- but maybe they are pushing their new agenda to get us all signed up to their preferred payment methods?

I don't remember ever feeling that time was short before... this is like the 2 weeks before a car tax form drops in the door. (and i would probably never have remembered the date it runs out except i have pinned the notice they sent 3 months ago to the calendar.)

Ours runs out at the end of Oct too and we have got the reminder, so yours should have arrived I would have thought.
  • Where I work we do TV Licences, and we've had loads of people coming to pay with cash. So you can still pay all in one go

You wouldn't be issued with a licence of any kind unless you did pay the full amount (unless on a pay as you go scheme - of which there are at least three.)

Honestly, one thing the tv licensing company is good at is letting you know when you owe them money. Even if your reminder has been lost in the post, as soon as your payment due date rolls around you'll automatically be sent an overdue reminder. You won't get into trouble for paying it a week or so late. You can pay in cash at what they call a 'Paypoint outlet' - find your nearest one on their website. I'm also pretty sure you don't have to wait for a reminder to renew it - just take your existing licence to a Paypoint place and ask to renew. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take your cash.:D
