Is there any remedies, treatments, conditioners or other options that can help split ends? I have a treatment at the moment called Redken extreme anit snap which I use on my hair everyday before I put head on it but it doesn`t seem to be doing the trick, unless i`m doing it wrong.
Hair is makiing me feel paranoid and uncomfortable at the minute as I think everyone is looking at it so all opinions welcomed.

Truth?
The only cure for split ends it to get them cut off. No shampoos treatment will make them glue together again.
Then make sure not to use too much heat or over styling on your hair if it is weak.0 -
Agree, get them cut and then protect against further damage.0

I also agree that getting your hair trimmed is probably the only real way to get rid of split ends and then protect your hair from damage in the future... I tried a product that claimed to cure split ends once and it did absolutely nothing, complete waste of money!
My friend (who quite possibly has the best condition hair i've ever seen) lives by these rules:
1) Only use low heat when styling (and use heat spray to protect hair beforehand)
2) Use an oil such as Moroccan Argan oil or a coconut oil hair mask
3) Do not towel dry your hair
She also uses a silk pillowcase and swears by it for preventing split ends, but maybe that's going a little too far for most people!0 -
Hair is dead once it's grown out of it's follicle (these are in your scalp). Once grown out, you have a hair strand that either is in good condition or bad condition and this will depend on what you're nutrition and general health is at the time. If you are not eating a balanced diet for example, don't expect your hair to be strong and in great condition.
Having said that; even hair that was healthy can become damaged and this is due to external factors such as heated styling tools (straightening irons, curling wands, hair driers), air conditioning drying it out, fiddling with it with your fingers, back-combing, very tight hair styles (eg cornrow type styles) and the list goes on. What makes something damaging is the heat, the amount of movement and the amount of tension your hair is under, this will weaken your hair and cause damage. Also- colouring and lightening your hair. This will also weaken hair though some hair colouring products now will actually add a treatment in to them and additionally leave you with a small pot of the treatment to apply a week or two down the line to help prevent damage and fading.
Once your hair is damaged, you can only really patch it up with products but know that any products you use to manage damage will wash out as soon as you rinse your hair and you are back to square one in terms of needing products to make your hair more manageable.
If you want to try the best of the products that work for helping prevent damage, you could try Olaplex, Phillip Kingsley's Elasticiser and Kerastase Masquintense. Also Aphogee's two step protein treatment, it can make a difference but is far from comfortable to do! There are no doubt others, these are just things that have worked for me in the past. Be aware though it may take 2-3 treatments to really see a difference and ideally you don't want to do a treatment more than once per week.
If you have trimmed the bad ends and are concerned about further damage, you could plait your hair (just not too tightly!) until it's grown out enough. Just make sure to not have any styles too tight or you risk further damage.0 -
Agree with the others
I remember advice on split ends from the 60s when I was a teenager, cut them:D0 -

Honestly, don't worry about what other people are looking at - that's almost certainly in your mind. I had alopecia areata a few years ago - biggest bald spot was 3 inches in diameter, and it wasn't the only one I had. And do you know what - no one noticed unless I mentioned it. Most people are far too busy worrying about their lives and what people think of them to be looking that closely at anyone else.
As for the split ends, you can't repair them, only cut them off and do you best to look after your hair in the future. I have what I thought was naturally wavy hair when I was younger and too much blow drying and straightening kills the condition. I now try to give it as many days air drying as I can - use a curling product and let it dry naturally most days and it goes into nice ringlets (i.e. more than just wavy) and I save the blow dries for special occasions.0 -
I don't think it's possible to repair split ends, they have to be cut off but I do find that coconut oil reduces the look of them.0

Whisk an egg yolk and mix in two or three tablespoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey. Work it into damp hair, leave it on for 30 minutes and then rinse it off. ...
Alternatively, whisk an egg with one teaspoon of almond oil. Apply on damp hair.0
