Paying by debit card

  • I have all my SO and D/d go out on the 1st of every month and draw my food budget cash out on the same day .My petrol I use my M&S c/card for and pay it off as soon as I am back at home before it even pops up on my online account :)
This month owing to lots of left over food from Christmas and being out quite a bit I have mostly shopped from my freezer/food stores indoors Today I went food shopping for only the second time this month and bought mostly fresh fruit and veg and a few essential items I had run out of and my total for this month was £18.0 about 10 days ago and today £10.42 making a total spend this month of £29.22 from my food budget purse The left over cash will go next Wednesday straight into my savings account and I will draw £60.00 in cash out on Thursday for February.I don't have daily spends as I am retired and balance my budget carefully and know I have more than enough in the bank if I needed to buy anything large.I am at the moment saving for my August holiday with my family
  • I find it easier to track using my debit card. Once I am paid, I subtract all of my 'known bills' for that month direct debits etc and then write down in a book the figure that is left. Every time I spend something on my card or withdraw cash, I record and subtract in my note book and calculate the new figure. The receipts stay in the book until the payment is removed on my online banking statement. Once the cash is in my purse, it has already been subtracted from the total so I spend as needed
