Tescos delivery duplicate

Hi,
There was a mess-up with my order and they delivered it last night(my original delivery date). I've just checked the website and they still have my new order date of tomorrow down. Do you think I'd get charged twice if they delivered it, and I was naughty and accepted it?

Thanks!

Happened to me - they delivered all my fresh stuff (not whole order) twice (that is double amounts on one occasion, not 1 lot each on 2 occasions, as with you).

I was honest and phoned them once I realised, about an hour after they'd delivered it, as I put it all away and thought 'this is a big order - did I really accidentally press the button twice to get more than I meant of all this stuff?' - it dawned on me maybe it was their error and not mine. I checked the receipt and found I'd only been charged for one of each item but they'd delivered me two of everything! As it was a big order and there was probably about £40 of fresh stuff, I felt bad and phoned them to tell them about it. I had been putting some of the fresh stuff in the freezer to save it from going off as I unpacked, as I knew there was too much for me to use before it went off, eg meat, fish etc. It took a while for them to decide what to do and phone me back. When they did, they told me I would have to return every item extra. When I pointed out that some of the items were now partially frozen and would have to be chucked if defrosted now, they just said to go ahead and tell the driver who picked them up, so they could be binned.

I was shocked to be honest - with packet stuff and dried goods etc, it makes perfect sense, but to take it out of my freezer, where it could have been used, to just bin it - when they would never even have known about it if I hadn't alerted them - seemed such a waste of perfectly good food I wished I hadn't told them. If they had decided what to do more quickly or let me keep the already frozen stuff (not all of it) it would have been reasonable - what they did, given I had to waste a huge amount of my evening sorting out their mess and got nothing for it, not even a thank you, inclines me to say that if they are stupid enough to deliver twice, then you might as well keep it.. they're only going to bin it....
  • Do you think I'll be charged twice?? My situation is slightly different from yours. Thanks for the reply though!

I would tell them when they come ....Did you actually order twice and confirm? If you sign twice you will pay twice and by signing you will confirm in writing... fraud....so you can't really say didn't get the first lot or your mistake not mine!

I must admit if the odd thing turns up in a bag which isn't mine I don't call them to tell them ....naughty but that is their error.
  • I didn't order twice......I ordered for yesterday but then had to work late so rescheduled it for Thursday. Got back from work at 10.30 and found a tescos van outside!!! I figured I would get charged twice. Don't mind double the food but don't really need all the cleaning stuff again.........can't really afford to pay again anyway!!!

i wonder if even thugh its showing up today it actually hasnt been sent to the office and therefor hasnt been offically changed and wonder if it will turn up today at all? what time is the slot?
maybe try ringing your bank and ask if any money is showing up being due to be taken??
or ring tesco and and ask if they have an ickling of what time they will be delivering ie early or late end of your slot and ask if they have a final price for it yet? then they might say sorry you got it two days ago, you can always say hubby must have accepted it and you havent even noticed!!
or if you hae someone else there today who can sign for it and then just blame it on the babysitter and ring them to come collect it again if they do end up charging you twice?
sorry just some ideas for you there!!!

Accepting the delivery with no intention to pay is theft. I'd let them know of the mistake and ask them to cancel.

Sorry if that sounds pompous, but knowingly accepting goods that you haven't paid/don't intend to pay for means higher prices for the rest of us.
