Do you mean renege, mikep? I somehow don't think they will. I had a couple of messages from the researcher during the course of it; think they were sent to all participants and it is clearly stated in the blurb that the sick squid is payable for completing all eight parts. I seem to recall it was originally six parts; I think she snuck a couple of extra ones in but may be mistaken.

I would hope, if she does fail to pay, that PA would make good. They will be hearing about it if they don't but Tina (was it?) seemed OK to me.

My misgivings about this £18 one were because there was no indication of when the second part would appear and the implication was that, if they did not like your answers to the first part, you would get nothing after spending ~ an hour on what felt like an interrogation.

When did I pass the paranoia baton to you, Mr. P? :D

ETA: Man, that study was looonngg but at least it did not drag on for months.

Damn straight, this is beer, noodles and curry on the line. Or even the chicken and mushroom miso broth with wild rice (no I am not a Tory) I have planned for this evening.

Just missed another one, this one would have been £4.50. Ah well, it was something like 'look at dots for 40 minutes', so maybe I'm lucky I didn't get it :rotfl:

Yes, there are limits, I think. The humungous one I did consisted of 12 tasks; felt like the labours of Hercules but none were anything like so brain-destroying as staring at freakin' dots. Some were quite difficult but at least not boring and one or two I rather enjoyed. I hope you guys get a chance to do it; that should buy some  and noodles.

I did that last night. It was dull, but easy and regular breaks. And I got a 50p bonus.

It was actually quite a clever survey which ultimately looked at racial undertones IMHO.

Both of those sound good actually!

My background is cognitive psychology/ neuroscience, so I expect the worst when it comes to experiments. I've had to do anything from listening to white noise for 40 minutes while pressing the space bar every time a pink circle turned orange (happened every 3 minutes or so) to listening to 300ms samples of babies screaming for an hour and guessing each time whether the baby was male or female (guess what: they sound the same). So yeah, still waiting for something truly horrific to come along on prolific, but I guess the really soul-destroying stuff only really works when you've got your participants locked in in a lab...

Anyone had the clothing study bonus yet? I have had a message from Tina to say PA are to blame as the money for all of them has left her account but only a few participants have been paid.

Add to that this pathetic catalogue of excuses from Joe of the Social Decision Making in Humans study about why he cannot pay us yet (he might not be able to afford the promised bonuses) and I am beginning to smell a couple of rats.
  • Not me Smodlet, just had the same email re. the clothing study. Just want it paid it was the longest study in history!
Joe also sent his warm regards re. his bonus !!!! up also.
