Postcards or envelopes for postal comps?

When entering postal comps do you post on a post card or on a sealed white envelope or even IN a white envelope?
I've always done postcards but they've started being more expensive now my £1 store doesn't sell them anymore...envelopes are a lot cheaper!
Advice please!xxx

I tend to use free postcards that they at places like cinemas and shopping centres - I don't visit either regularly so I stock up when I do!
I generally also use used, un-marked stamps too so the comps don't cost meanything to enter!
I always check this instructions for the comp - they often specify how entries are to be sent but if they don't I always send a postcard.
Hope this helps0
