Any success stories with Barclays with defaults?

Full application going in the next few days for Barclays, just waiting on Halifax to send over proof of address for me!

We got declined on Halifax AIP but accepted on Barclays for an AIP which has surprised me because I see nothing on here in regards to Barclays and bad credit.

I have 2 defaults (1 from September 2012 - £67 settled January 2013 and the other £237 from May 2013, settled December 2013)

Squeaky clean record for 28 months now - before that I had a few late payments on a Lloyd's account where they took an account fee when I forgot the account was there.

Applying for a joint HTB equity loan mortgage with my other half who has an excellent credit score and banks with Barclays. Is this looking hopeful for us? I'm super worried and was looking for any success stories with Barclays with adverse credit!?

Probably because I think brokers in the main try to avoid them.
Your application will either be the easiest application ever or harder than climbing mount everest with a donkey on your back. Most of the time it is the latter. There is not usually an in between with them.

  • Okay so don't expect the world from them got it! How long do they usually take to get back with an answer after you put in a full application?

Like a number of High Street names, Barclays can consider a few minor historical credit issues. If their computer says yes, the staff in Mumbai are unlikely to argue.

With regard to next steps, a lot depends on who is handling your case and how experienced they are with Barclays.
