Festive Fivers Competition: The best Xmas pressies for under £5

This is good for children, culinary friends or just as a sweet gift!
Essentially it is a recipe (dry ingredients only) that it layered in a cilners jar with a decorative touch and the baking instructions enclosed.
I madethese last year for my mates and they were a huge success.
What you need:- a good recipe (see links below for ideas, but they tend to be US sites and measure in cups! BUT you can either use an online converter to change cups to g/oz or buy a cup measure in the local supermarket)
- a cilners jar per present- the glass jars used for jams and preserves that have an orange rubber seal and metal clip. I bought mine from The Range if you have one- http://www.therange.co.uk/scat/ourstores BUT be careful as some shops will overprice these jars so shop around!
- Decorative fabric and ribbon- you will need a square of fabric to cover the lid of your jar that is just folded over and held in place with an elastic band and then a ribbon tied over to hide the band. Local markets are great for off cuts or cheap material by the measurement.
- Dry ingredients for your recipe- I did simple cookies for everyone but varied the sweets that were added in e.g. m and m cookies, milky bar button cookies etc. Try to buy the sweeties bits at cheapie stores like Poundland etc. I didn't stick to white/milk choc chips as these became expensive as they are only sold in little bags. So I opted for milky bar buttons etc- what ever takes your fancy!
- A handwritten and decorated or computer typed and decorated label with the wet ingredients that are required (with quantities) and the recipe instructions.
This site has loads of recipes for cookie jars- and you don't just have to do cookies!

This site has alternatives - e.g. spiced tea, soup, etc
Sorry but I can't find the site I found this on but so long as you get a good recipe and the jar etc it's pretty straight forward, cheap and effective!0 -
I did this one at uni for my then boyfriend, it wasn't till afterwards he told me he was scared of loofahs!
- Name of present? DIY loofah kit
- Do you make it or buy it? bit of both
- Total Cost? £1.60 upwards
- Details (the more the better) Find some loofah seeds, in a seed catalogue or online (they're not that easy to track down) and then box them up with a small pot and a bit of earth if you want to - the recipient can always find their own. The pot can be as fancy as you want, but I reuse the ones you get with herbs from the supermarket.

Dear All,
Recyle your own candles into new candles.
Buy wicks from Indian shops they are very cheap, burn better, longer and you get a lot of wickes for pennies.
Find any empty jar that you are about to recycle or a just a glass you never use.
Burn your candle as normal. As the wax melts, pour into the empty glass and place the wick onto the melted wax, this will hold it in place. You can also tie the end to a pencil to steady the wick if you like.
Just repeat the process, until the glass is full. Decorate the outside with festive ribbon or whatever you like. So there you go nice cheap smelly candles for everyone for less than what you bought it at.
You can also chuck old crayons, for added effect. The best candles for this are actually from Primark, they smell great, they actually provide fragrance in the room as well unlike others, and you get a nice drinking glass afterwards.
I've used the same £2.00 redwood candle to date 7 times.:D:santa2: :santa2: :snow_laug :rudolf:

- Make your own selection box!
- Buy it / make it
- Up to 5 quid, depending on how much chocolate you want to give them
- Buy some celephene wrap or a plan gift bag (50 - 99p), fill with chocolate bar selections of your choice... buy bulk and it'll be even cheaper. Much cheaper (and you get much more!) than a selection box. Tie the top of the celephene wrap with a bow, and voila! You also get to choose the chocs you want, so you're not left with a load of bars that nobody likes0 -
- Make your own photo frame
- Make it
- £3
- Buy one of those cheap wooden frames, you can get them from ikea, wilkinsons and many other places im sure. Buy some beads, stars, hearts, felt tips, glitter pens - you can usually get a bag from the bed shop for a couple of ponds, and glitter pens from the pond shop - customize the photo frame to the person, write your own little message / their name etc in the glitter pens. Stick on stars, beads, etc. If you have 'stamps' (if you make your own cards), they can look good too. A personalized photo frame! Good for kids to make parents, or for a cheesy pressie for boyf/girlf.0 -
- Name of present Ice Shot Glasses mould
- Do you make it or buy it? Buy It
- Total Cost? £2.99
- Details (the more the better) Shot glasses made from ice! Brr-illiant, we hear you cry! Simply fill the Ice Shot Glasses mould with water, bung it in the freezer and before you know it you'll have 12 perfectly formed frozen shot glasses. Water is the obvious option with which to make your Ice Shot Glasses but you can use pretty much anything else that freezes - within reason, please! We're particularly into cranberry juice at the mo, as the faint zing complements certain grain based drinks to perfection. The colour's cool too. Or how about bombing a B52 encased in frozen orange? The possibilities are endless!
- Where possible please add a link if it's an online offer Bought them from Quality Save in Sale.
