If you pay for your prescriptions, and suddenly find yourself with a prescription for more than 3 items, nip to Boots Chemist, where you can apply for a Prepayment Certificate, which you can then use immediately, saving you at least £5-30.

All pharmacies offer this doesn't have to be Boots0

Also be aware that you are signing up to a twelve month PPC, you can't just cancel immediately.
It is excellent value if you need regular medications.0 -

I get a 3 month pre-payment certificate a few times a year. It's £29.10 which works out well if I'm getting a few prescriptions at £8.60 (I think that's the charge now?).0 -

The Lloyds one attached to my doctor's surgery doesn't.
All they could offer me was a phone number to ring, so I could set one up, which isn't much use if you already have a prescription to fill.
They did, however, kindly point me in the direction of Boots.BorisThomson wrote: »Also be aware that you are signing up to a twelve month PPC, you can't just cancel immediately.
I paid in cash, over the counter.0 -

£8-60 is the current charge.
I've just got 6 items, instantly saving myself £22-50. Nearly a BOGOF.
I'm also expecting to have at least one more prescription, in the next three months.0 -
Or alternatively you can get an annual one instantly on line https://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/PPC.aspx0

But note this.Although the PPC is valid from the day of your application (unless otherwise requested), it may take a couple of days for you to receive your certificate in the post. This means you won't be able to provide evidence that you hold a PPC until your certificate arrives, so you may have to pay for your prescription and ask for a refund afterwards.
When you are standing at the Pharmacy counter, facing a bill of, in my case, £51-60, I think it's easier to pop to another Pharmacy and obtain the PPC right there and then.0 -
Also add in the amount of prescription drugs you get. For my cardio I get two prescriptions, both for 84 days each. This works out to pay on the service, and not pre pay. Other areas only offer 28 days, for them, they use pre pay.
As for having 6 items in one go, is this a regular occursnce or a one off?0 -
I pay for a 12 month PPC at £10.40 per month.
I receive 6 prescriptions a month. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Hard to say at this stage, but just this one prescription makes the 3 month Certificate worth it.0
