My daughter was 6 a few weeks ago and she gave all her guests a pumpkin plant each that she planted from seed a couple of weeks before the party. They'll be ready for halloween and only really cost the price of a small pot each, a bit of soil and a packet of pumpkin seeds... worked out about 50p each, but everyone said what a lovely idea it was.... they all give us updates on how the plants are doing and the kids are having a competition to see who can grow the biggest pumpkin:D

I'm just doing some party bags so I thought I'd add to this thread.

My son is having his 5th birthday party at the fire station on sunday (My hubby is a fireman so we don't have any hire charges and the kids can play with the fire engines and hoses to their hearts content)

I have bought some little packs of coloured pencils from Morrisons @ 2 for 19p
and have printed off 2 different pictures to colour in from Essex fire and rescue website. I've added a balloon and a small packet of sweets so a total cost of approx 30p per bag.

I did exactly the same for my 6 year old son's birthday party last month and I had lots of positive comments from the parents.
There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word which means more to me than any other. That word is England.

I've just done some party bags. 49p for 6 bags, 99p for a pack of MAOAM (sp?) sweets, 60p for 6 small bars of choc, 60p for 6 liqourice sweets and £1 for a pack of 6 hairbands.

    £3.68 for 6 party bags. :j

It's enough to be honest. My DD has probably been to errrrrrr ...... 50 parties in the past 6 years and honestly!!!! some of the tat you get in those bags  Bits of plastic are all very well but most kids want a few sweets, some cake and a balloon.
Just run, run and keep on running!

I second the NickJr website - they also have printable pages to colour which could double as decorations, party game ideas etc. Or maybe if you daughter wants to help decorate by doing some of the colouring...

My daughter also loves Dora and if you are into baking your own cake, I found a great Dora cake topper on ebay... which also later becomes a toy to play with. It went over quite well.

I'd say in this lovely weather they'll take about 2 weeks to sprout and be a fair sized plant in a small pot.... the ones we planted at the beginning of June now have pumpkins the size of tennis balls on.... but we did plant later last year (round about this time last year) and still had great pumpkins for halloween. Re-pot into a much bigger pot (or put in the ground) and give lots of water!
Also... once they're about the size of a tennis ball, you can scratch your name or a design into the skin... as the pumpkin grows, the name "scabs" over and grows with the pumpkin.. it's a great way to personalise them for the kids.
There really is nothing like growing your own pumpkins, nurturing them and then carving them out!!

Woolies sell inexpensive pumpkin seeds, as does Wilkinsons and probably loads of other places.... last year we got about 11 enormous pumpkins from one packet of seeds (99p).....

    Hope you have fun!:D

For my daughters party year before last, each guest got a book (from the book people of course!:D ) and we made a bookmark for each guest with their name on and "Thankyou so much for coming to my party, with love from xxxx" on them and the date.... quick pass through the laminator and all done! Went down a storm!:D
